Kenyatta Computer Services Is Born
Lionel Maybin starts KCS while stationed at Hickam AFB in Honolulu, HI. From the very beginning, KCS was founded on the belief that everybody should have access to the predominant technology of the future. The first services offered were based around desktops, as they were just starting to become common for home use.
First Relocation to Oklahoma City, OK
Being an active duty service member, KCS went where the Air Force stationed Lionel. During this time, Windows 95 was released, and computers were becoming more and more prevalent in society. Our core business functioned in both OKC and Dallas.
KCS Goes International
At the start of the '00s, Lionel's career took him to Incirlik AFB in Turkey. Employing the power of websites, KCS services transitioned primarily to business services. We helped bring the idea of e-commerce to local business, and since then have focused on services that make doing business easier for our clients.
A New Frontier
Alaska is the next stop on the KCS world tour, as the Air Force brings our headquarters to Anchorage, AK. Being back in the states, we also started our KCS IT Academy. This provided youth and career changers and opportunity to learn and gain exposure to the IT industry.
No Longer a Side Venture
At the end of 2008, Lionel retired from the Air Force after 23 years of service. After a quick spell in corporate America, Lionel follows his heart and pursues KCS full time. He also begins teaching IT fundamentals at Charter College, which helps expand the KCS IT Academy. Students in our Academy have taken their new skills into the IT industry, including companies such as Lockheed, Walmart, NCS, and more.
Tackling the Country
Lionel begins traveling the country to expand the business and introducing us to a multitude of clients. From 2014-2018, he travels from coast to coast, expanding KCS' reach and client base. He succeeds in forming partnerships with private, government, and non-profit organizations.
After Over 25 Years in the Industry, KCS Decides to Scale
At the end of 2018, Nahjee Maybin takes over as CEO. Our community-based mission stays the same, but KCS is now determined to grow in order to become a sustainable institution within the community. The more we do, the more we can help. By utilizing the foundation set by Lionel, KCS is able to take on our biggest clients to date, as well as help more people enter the IT industry than ever before.
